MY MALAYSIA ADVENTURE
I’ve always been fascinated by Asian countries — the colours, the temples, the artwork, and the layers of culture woven through daily life.
Over the years, I’ve travelled to Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam, and Cambodia, but in recent years I’ve felt an especially strong pull to Malaysia.
It all began when I visited Singapore for a Buddhist Art course and first learned about the mysterious cave temples across the border.
That spark of curiosity grew into a deep love for Malaysia’s colourful melting pot of cultures, and the layers of old and new that blend together in such a unique way.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit Malaysia twice in recent years.
When exploring Malaysia, everywhere I looked, I was overwhelmed with inspiration — from the vibrant Hindu temples, Chinese shrines, and incredible mosques, to the Peranakan shophouses, contemporary art, and street art scenes.
If you know me, you’ll know how much I love colours and experimenting with unique colour combinations.
So when I travelled through Malaysia and found those same vibrant colours alive in its streets, temples, mosques, and murals, it felt like stepping into my own creative dream — as if the colours I’ve always loved were reflected back to me in a new, beautiful, and uniquely Malaysian way.
Some of the highlights of my trips include:
✨ Exploring the cave temples of Ipoh and the iconic Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur (a dream of mine for years)
✨ Wandering through Georgetown in Penang, with its mix of Peranakan architecture, museums, and murals
✨ Visiting stunning temples like Kek Lok Si and Thean Hou Temple
✨ Getting lost in the colours, textures, and details that seemed to appear on every corner
These experiences have inspired me immensely, and I’m already dreaming of the day I can return to immerse myself even more in this incredible country.
I’ve shared a few photos and pieces of art inspired by my time in Malaysia, though it was impossible to choose my favourites — if you’re interested, you can find even more over on my Instagram: @ellensart
I hope this glimpse into my travels inspires you as much as Malaysia has inspired me.
